Steps from the mountain village of Edgemont, Forest Haven stands out against its evergreen backdrop.

This project was a renovation of exterior plus an addition to the original 1950’s home. We worked with the client to create a mix of relaxed and refined space. A large open main entrance, with old world tiles, now flank the wrap around garden terrace. The lower level was converted into media and sports rooms and a social path to the pool. A lower level entrance was added that created a completely self-contained nanny/in-law suite. Throughout we used the owner’s private collection of fabulous art. The result was a warm and bold residence tailored for enjoying life.

Whistler Griz

Nestled in the foothills of Whistler Blackcomb, this contemporary west coast new build blends well in the neighbourhood and cosmopolitan ski resort town. We worked closely with, the clients, and architect John Medland, known for his contemporary timber homes; plus local famed builders Tom Brophy and Jacquie Reck to create a mountain modern retreat. Our design goal was creating a beautiful interior, and with having the complete trust of the clients, our design team delivered a unique and thoughtful space. Inspired by skiers’ outfits making a contrast with the white snow and mountain view. We highlighted the use of colour to juxtaposition against the natural materials of wood, stone, and light. The custom furnishings, rustic wall covering, distinctive lighting, exceptional artwork make this the perfect recreational place to entertain and relax.

Victoria Place

Nature meets Urban Growth

These are twin sister towers with spectacular views of the Simon Fraser University and Burnaby Mountain. Plus, they are just minutes to the trails that are flanked with coniferous trees, walls of earth cache, and west coast ferns. To the southeast is the new SkyTrain pathway and urban city development which has made this location ready for a reenergize to blend into the new urban westcoast style. Interiors Defined developed a theme that gave both lobbies their own identity but still reflected each other. By drawing on the traits found in the local forest and marrying sleek contemporary wood paneling, and clean lined seating; we were able create a natural ambience yet still be contemporary. Our clients were pleased with the process as well as working with their prescribed budget and time restraints. The result is reflective of casual elegance often what Interiors Defined designs are know for.

UBC

Sometimes we are asked to just bring life back to an environment that seems to have just fallen asleep. For Interiors Defined projects are not measured on how large or small, or grande or simple. We measure on what is important to our clients and work creatively, diligently, and with the budgets determined to create spaces our owners will be proud of. Our clients are paramount to us, and their needs be it what we call a lipstick project; lipstick = needs be revived or a full renovation; we take both style of project with equal importance. This project in Westbrook Village on the UBC peninsula is a beautiful condominium and townhome complex. Nestled in historical endowment lands of large coniferous trees this lobby just asked for attention. We embraced this project by using the natural wood and greenery colours in the new seating and custom-made focal point pendant lighting. The space is used not only for residents to meet and chat but also by the many young children that enjoy climbing and playing on the artful furnishings.

Paris Place

Paris Place by the International Globe

Paris Place is a 32-story tower and townhome complex encompassing a full square block near Tinseltown, the Old Expo 86 site and Vancouver’s famous Chinatown. The tower entrance with its nod to old world with curve architrave details faces the public art sculpture, “International Globe”, which is often the term noted for the community. The development that was built in 1995 during the boom of growth after the discovery of Vancouver at Exp. Now needed a revival for the next flux of home buyers and renters. Owners wanted to capitalize on their investments and bring the interiors into todays styles but without compromising longevity of design. Our challenge was to work with a large group and satisfy the majority. We reflected on the area, the people, and building characteristics. The neighbourhood is bustling; never-sleeping city living. The people were proud owners and renters that wanted to feel they came home to a place that permitted reflection and relaxation. The building was a complex mix of curves and angles, tight spaces, low and then lofty ceilings. But in the middle of the complex hidden away on the third level was a hidden oasis, a central garden that many residents walked through or along the upper pathways to reach their homes. The design reflects this tranquility by using a clean palette pure white, contrasting night blues, cloud grey tones, and visual textures that look like the bark of trees and wind swirling in the air. Dark furniture was the colour of the sky, and evening clouds just as the sun set over the mountain. This view is what many see when looking out their suite windows. The carpet tile design reflects the inspiration of walking along a pathway through small pools of water; and the pendants in the two different lobbies with gold interior are the moon rays shining down into those puddles. The final change was to have neighbourhood images taken by local photographer David Wood, of iconic and beautiful sites to remind all, of their home and impactful surroundings.

Mod BnB

This playful suite is really part of a much larger home and originally designed as an oasis for teens or others to chill in their own space. The unit is attached to the house but also able to be separate. Not likely to be identified in an area known for it’s great outdoors and expansive skiing, this pied-a-terre has a retro and new fun energy aesthetics and even boasts an patio deck overlooking the evergreens and mountain view. The bunkie was created in collaboration with a craftsman well known for his work on elaborate yachts. The functional steps yet roguish spirt allows for guests to sleep in style. This space was a good nature affirmation to using colour with flavour, down to the custom painted stripe walls, the elaborate galley kitchen, and sans colour mid-century womb chair. Worth the visit just for the space, and the big bonus to be in the fabulous mountains full of wilderness activities.

Klahanie

Tides On Burrard Inlet

Tides is a three building condominium complex at the foot of the Burrard Inlet, and in the city of Port Moody. These condos are part a larger neighbourhood of apartment towers and townhomes nestled at the edge of the urban centre. This community also includes the Canoe Club a private recreation centre for the development, which Interiors Defined is excited to be currently working on.
Drawing on the characteristics of the inlet water, our team used texture and colour to reflect the blues of sky and ocean against the auburn tones true to the arbutus trees, which are distinctive; as they are known to only grow near salt water. The design is contemporary for the evolving neighbourhood, yet still possesses a timeless style generating a broad appeal.

Discovery Place

Discovering Brutalism Architecture

Discovery Place 1 located in Burnaby, now called the evolving city of Lougheed is a strata tower and townhomes architecturally designed in the style of Brutalism. This style is known for it’s (brut) French term for “raw”. Hence, this style is known for the use of raw and functional reinforced concrete, modular elements, and utilitarian quality. Interiors Defined was awarded the project to redefine the public areas – large lobby and corridors. The design developed reflects a more contemporary vibe to complement the new city with its surrounding forest. Plus gives a nod to the finishes and materials of the exterior design. The result is inviting shared common areas for all to feel proud of moving into the future.

Cornwall

Sunshine Manor at Kitsilano Beach

In the vibrant and stylish neighbourhood of Kits Beach, this retro building on Cornwall near the water was in dire need of an update and refresh. Our team worked with the owner of the building to bring interest and liveliness while still working within a noted budget. The lobby was a long box with lighting at the entrance. By creating a box within a box using wood veneer and matching tiles we were able to create a sitting area that reflects as an art form. Accents of colour from the ocean and a custom-made metal photo imaging of the neighbourhood topped it off. Renters feel at home and part of the happening local scene.

Catalina

Catalina on my Mind

Catalina in Brighouse Neighbourhood, is a three story, two building strata located in the city of Richmond, B.C. The owners wanted to update the common two lobbies from the design dating back to when the condominiums were built in 1991. Interiors Defined worked closely with the council to create similar sister lobbies that had different layouts and configurations. Through presentations to council and owners at an AGM, Caroline and her team at Interiors Defined designed a streamlined elegance to reflect owners’ interest and pride of their home and buildings.
